About the vacancy

As our Forestry Works Manager, you will effectively prepare full scoping of our proposed projects across the country, creating estimates, detailed plans and programmes, to ensure effective delivery within specified timescales and budgets.

As our Forestry Works Manager, you will be responsible for:

· Attending pre-commencement meetings with the client, representing, facilitating and supporting COOMBES’s programme

· Advise clients in forestry management and identify potential opportunities for COOMBES

· Proactively and effectively act as conduit between clients and the COOMBES team to ensure smooth work delivery and provision of an excellent service.

· Networking with third party companies and competitors to monitor and secure the best rates for harvesting and the sale of goods

· Ensuring procurement and reconciliation of materials is carried out in accordance with COOMBES policies and procedures.

· Attending and leading client meetings, representing COOMBES

· Establishing knowledge, whilst identifying and pursuing business opportunities that are in line with COOMBES’ business strategy

· Monitoring, managing and reporting on contract progress and production rates

· Establishing and developing relationships with landowners, forestry committees, harvesting contractors, sawmills and sub-contractors, identifying business development opportunities for COOMBES

· Effectively coordinating, directing and supervising teams of employed Operatives and sub-contractors to deliver works

· Providing periodic reviews including budgeting costs, timelines and other key information to the Forestry management team

· Arranging reactive response to equipment and machinery breakdowns, ensuring downtime and cost is kept to a minimum and routine maintenance is carried out

· Carrying out site/tree surveys and reporting findings

· Preparing risk assessments/method statements in line with company standards

· Observing and following all applicable safe methods of working, and health, safety and environmental rules/procedures

· Reporting any incidents or Close Calls immediately to the appropriate person

To be successful as our Forestry Works Manager, we would ideally like you to have the following skills/experience:

· Significant recent experience in Forestry or Arboriculture with excellent knowledge and understanding of the industry

· Relevant NPTC, CSCS, UA and SMSTS qualifications

· Proven project management skills

· Experienced in supervising and managing a forestry team, equipment and machinery

· Commercial acumen, including accurate cost control and efficient procurement

· Up to date with forestry, health, safety and environment standards/legislations

· Experience in tender and bid-writing

· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels

· Ability to read and interpret maps, including GPS/GIS and plan logistics within set timescales

· Strong influencing and negotiation skills

· Extensive experience in report writing and numerical data manipulation.

· Experienced in managing forestry contracts in both the public and private sector

· CDM-related qualification(s) and relevant experience

· ICF membership/affiliation

· You will be confident working with various tools and possess a good working knowledge of health and safety practices

· You will take pride in your work, completing tasks to a high standard – self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

· A natural ability to build good working relationships with clients and colleagues

· Methodical approach to problem-solving with excellent attention to detail

You will be required to work outside from time to time, so you must be happy to work in all that the British weather has to offer.
